Damon Wayans is planning to exit the Fox series, Lethal Weapon during the current season. The comedian and actor announced the surprising news in an interview with Eurweb.com.

Wayans is planning his exit after production is completed on the 13 episodes of Season 3 that were ordered by Fox. “I’m going to be quitting the show in December after we finish the initial 13. So, I really don’t know what they’re planning, but that’s what I’m planning.”

The 58-year-old comedian attributed the exit to age and being a diabetic and the grueling 16-hour work days. Wayans has missed out on life with his family over the role.

“It’s hard for me to play this loving, supportive father/husband/ friend on TV, but be the guy in life that is telling everyone, I can’t I have to work,” he said.

Wayans will reportedly “return to the stage and try to find [his] smile again.”

This will be the second major change to the series. In May, Lethal Weapon was renewed but Wayans’ co-star Clayne Crawford, whom he had a conflicted on-set relationship with, was replaced with Seann William Scott in a new role. When Crawford was removed from the show Wayans slammed his former co-star for being “an emotional terrorist.”

Season 3 of Lethal Weapon premiered on Sept. 25. The show airs Tuesdays on Fox at 9 p.m. EST.

The network has not commented on Wayans’ revelation.
