Denzel Wanted for “Equalizer” Remake

Denzel Washington

Denzel Washington is reportedly being pursued for the lead role in the film adaptation of 80's TV show, "The Equalizer." Rumor has it that Russell Crowe ("Gladiator") had originally been attached to the project when it was first announced a year ago, but Sony Pictures seems to have gone in a different direction this time around. Being the highly sought after leading man that he is, Washington will likely be requiring his usual $20 million salary, which is about half of the film's $50 million budget.

The lead character in the CBS crime-solving series back in the day (originally played by Edward Woodward) was a former spy-turned-vigilante with "a mysterious past" who sought atonement for his prior sins by helping those in need. No word yet as to how much the film will differ from the series, but Washington's role has been described as "a solitary, monastic figure who hates injustice and devotes himself to helping people who are being victimized." "The Equalizer" reboot has been set to release on April 8, according to Deadline.
