DMX’s lawyers’ plea for a judge to listen to the rapper’s music for leniency fell on deaf ears.

On Wednesday, the rapper, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was sentenced to 12 months in prison for tax evasion, TMZ reports.

DMX accepted responsibility for his actions and admitted that he was too old to not be on the straight and narrow, TMZ says.

A judge also said the “Slippin” rapper to three years of supervised release following his one-year prison sentence.

Federal prosecutors were seeking a maximum five-year sentence after he failed a drug test while he was out of jail, according to the site.
