Donna Summer’s Funeral Service Set for Today

Donna Summer

Disco queen Donna Summer will finally be laid to rest during a private burial today, attended by family and close friends. The ceremony will take place in a church in Nashville, Tennessee, with about 1,000 people expected to show. While reports of a public ceremony have been circulating, Summer's publicist Brian Edwards put the rumors to rest in an official statement. "On behalf of the Sudado Family, the overwhelming outreach from the media, fans and friends alike has been most truly appreciated," Edwards told The Hollywood Reporter.

"Reports of a public memorial next week in Nashville are not accurate," he added. "The services being planned will be private to include only family and close friends. Thank you for continuing to respect the family's privacy during this time." The family hopes to avoid a media spectacle so they will be sticking to a very strict guest list. Summers passed away in Florida last week at the age of 63. She had been battling lung cancer.
