On May 29, Pusha-T released “The Story of Adidon,” a blistering diss track in which he accused Drake of hiding a son, allegedly named Adonis, who he planned to reveal to the world through a rumored Adidas deal. “Adidon” is a portmanteau of the child’s name and the name of the sneaker company. On his latest double album, Scorpion, which came out today (June 29), the Toronto native raps about wanting to protect his son from the world, single fatherhood and his strained relationship with the child’s mother.

On the song, “Emotionless,” Drake raps, “I wasn’t hiding my kid from the world, I was hiding the world from my kid.” He continues, “From empty souls who just wake up and look to debate / until you staring at your seed, you can never relate … Breaking news in my life, I don’t run to the blogs / I only ones I wanna tell are the ones I can call.”

The OVO creator makes other references to his child throughout the album. Even before the release of Pusha’s song, Drake rapped about child support on “I’m Upset,” saying, “Can’t go 50/50 with no h* / Every month I’m supposed to pay her bills and get her what she want.”

Drake’s current experience with fatherhood is the focus of “March 14,” the closing track on his fifth studio album. He raps:

“Yesterday morning was crazy / I had to come to terms with the fact that it’s not a maybe / That s**t is in stone, sealed and signed / She’s not my lover like Billie Jean, but the kid is mine / Sandi used to tell me all it takes is one time / S**t, we only met two times. Two times / And both times were nothing like the new times / Now it’s rough times/ I’m out here on front lines just tryna make sure that I see him sometimes / It’s breaking my spirit / A single father, I hate when I hear it.”

In the above lines, the rapper is talking about finding out the paternity of his son and barely knowing the woman he impregnated, although his mother forewarned him about it taking one sexual encounter to father a child. On the song, Drake also reveals his son’s birthday is on Oct. 11 and explains that’s the reason he has the number tattooed. He also alludes to custody issues with his child’s mother and says he has only been able to meet his son on Christmas.

“I got a empty crib in my empty crib / I only met you one time, introduced you to Saint Nick / He must’ve brought you like 20 gifts / Your mother saying you growing so fast that they don’t really fit but, man, you know / I still had to get it for my boy though.”

Scorpion can be streamed on all music platforms.
