Exhale Sequel May Continue

When involving a high-profile icon, the circle of life almost always includes posthumous movie deals and final performances. In the case of Whitney Houston, Hollywood has kicked any and every film involving Houston into high gear, hoping to capitalize off of the exponential public interest in the late singer's performances. Unlike most music performers with an untimely passing, Houston was also a versatile actress who had several projects in the works, the "Waiting to Exhale" sequel being one of them. Reportedly, Fox 2000 Pictures, the studio developing the now high-priority project, has every intention of moving forward with the film centered around Terry McMillan's sequel to "Exhale," Getting to Happy.

"I don’t think she would want it to," said Elizabeth Gabler, president of Fox 2000 Pictures. "It's almost in her honor that we think to soldier on." Almost being the keyword here, there is undoubtedly a desire to build off of the Houston hype as was done with Michael Jackson's death three years ago. When asked about Houston's replacement, Gabler stated that Oprah Winfrey, who had been slated for a comeback to the big screen, might be the perfect fit. "It isn't inconceivable," Gabler said. Between the "Exhale" sequel and "Sparkle," Houston's final performance in film, we expect to be seeing much more of the divine diva on the silver screen in the months to come.

Would Oprah make a good replacement for Whitney in the "Exhale" sequel? Or is Fox just looking for a quick fix and fast payday from a celebrity's tragic death?
