Fergie Responds to National Anthem Backlash, Says She Tried Her Best

Fergie responded to her much-criticized performance of the national anthem at the 2018 All-Star Game.

The eight-time Grammy-winner released a statement to TMZ saying she was a “risk taker.”

“I’ve always been honored and proud to perform the national anthem and last night I wanted to try something special for the NBA,” Fergie told TMZ. “I’m a risk taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn’t strike the intended tone. I love this country and honestly tried my best.”

The singer was heavily criticized by fans on social media about her rendition of the “Star-Spangled Banner” on Sunday night, which left many in attendance looking confused.
