Gina Rodriguez has been tapped by Netflix to star as the lead in its live-action feature of Carmen Sandiego, according to Deadline.
Kevin Misher and Caroline Fraser will produce the film with Rodriguez through her I Can and I Will production company. This announcement comes after Netflix revealed it would be creating a modern Carmen Sandiego cartoon series in 2019. Rodriguez will also voice the character in this animated series.
Rodriguez is known for her breakout role in the CW’s Jane the Virgin which earned her a best actress win in a musical or comedy TV series in 2015. She continues to play the role and has expanded her career by starring in feature films Annihilation and Miss Bala.
Carmen Sandiego made her first appearance in Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego?, an educational entertainment series that taught children geography.
