Issa Rae Sums Up Exactly How Many Are Feeling About Trump’s Presidency

America is less than two weeks away from Donald Trump being sworn in as the 45th president and many are still uneasy about what his Administration will bring. While there are still a lot of raw emotions left over from November’s divisive election, particularly since nearly three million more people voted for Hillary Clinton over Trump, others have called for the country to come together.

Trump, on the other hand, has spent the months since the election fighting with his “enemies” on social media and lashing out at anyone who criticizes him. With an incoming president so free with his Twitter fingers, many are rightfully nervous about the next four years.

Sunday night, our favorite Awkward Black Girl, Issa Rae, was asked how she feels about an impending Trump Administration and the Golden Globe nominee spoke for many of us when she admitted that she was extremely nervous.

“Every single time I see a tweet from that man, every single time I see some of the staff and administration he’s bringing in, it gets worse and worse,” Rae told Variety. “The scariest part to me is how normal it’s becoming to some people.”

Although many have tried to normalized Trump and his controversial cabinet picks— like Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions who called the NAACP “un-American,” and Steve Bannon who regularly peddled white supremacist propaganda through his online publication—Rae said the media has to continue to point out Trump’s outlandish behavior.

“I think we just have to keep calling things out like, ‘Nope, you’re lying. Nope, that’s not true! Nope, that doesn’t work that way,” she said. “As long as we don’t continue to let him slide, then there might be some hope, but it’s scary.”
