Issa Rae took her night hosting the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s (CFDA) annual fashion awards as an opportunity to share her thoughts on Kanye West and pay tribute to a Boris Gardiner classic.
The Insecure star rocked a stunning cobalt blue jumpsuit with a gorgeous overlay, tied together with a belt that read, “Every Nigga is a Star,” taken from the Gardiner track of the same name.
Rae also took aim at Yeezy, addressing the MC while delivering her monologue.
“I’m as fashionable as Kanye West is black. Only when it’s convenient. That joke was my choice, just like slavery.”
The dinner was held at the Brooklyn Museum with guests including Chanel Iman, Lupita Nyong’o, Trevor Noah, Ciara and Michael Kors. Honorees included Kim Kardashian West, Ralph Lauren, Supreme, Raf Simons and Donatella Versace.
