Rapper Kanye West has been getting a lot of backlash from celebrities and fans alike for his comments on slavery. While on TMZ Live on Tuesday, West suggested slavery was a choice because it lasted for 400 years. Ava DuVernay, Spike Lee and others responded to the rapper’s claims with criticism. An online petition was also created demanding that German sportswear brand adidas cut ties with him.
Longtime friend Jamie Foxx, however, has come forward to defend the rapper and places blame on TMZ. While out at a West Hollywood bar, the Oscar-winning actor was caught on video obtained by the site saying, “TMZ know they shouldn’t be doing that s**t, man, to a good friend of ours. … They put that boy on display.”
He continued, “My man is going through something, I ain’t gonna be like everybody else and jump on the bandwagon and say I hate my dude.” After making suggestions that West needs some help, Foxx offered up his number to the entertainer.
