As anticipation builds to see Jamie Foxx change the game yet again in director Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming Django Unchained, the Oscar-winning actor is reportedly staking out another electrifying role. According to Variety, a source claims that Foxx is in negotiations to play Peter Parker’s latest arch-enemy in Sony’s highly anticipated sequel to last summer’s The Amazing Spider-Man.

The 44-year-old Foxx is slated to play Electro, one of Spidey’s most dangerous villains who initially made his comic-book debut in The Amazing Spider-Man no.9 back in February 1964.

For those of you not up on Marvel Comics lore, Electro is the guise of Maxwell Dillon, a man with an emotionally disturbed nature who harbors an inferiority complex. One stormy night, he’s struck by a bolt of lightning while working as a lineman. Instead of dying instantly, the accident gives him the superhuman ability to control electricity. The calamitous arch-villain can usually be found dolling out his criminal efforts dressed in a green and yellow lightning-themed costume, and fully enjoys the thrills of living a life of crime. In short, Electro becomes one of the webslinger’s most fearsome foes.

There is no official word from Sony or Marvel Comics, but Fox himself hinted at his possible upcoming role with an interesting Halloween tweet. “Dressed up as Electro for Halloween last night. Costume fits well,” the acclaimed actor mused on Twitter.

Spider-Man director Marc Webb was asked to fill in the blanks about the rumors, and was coy in his response. ” Jamie Foxx… I think he’s electrifying,” Webb said, but would not comment further.

If the former In Living Color funnyman tucks this role into his billfold, it would be his next biggest recent role, following his highly anticipated leading role in Django Unchained, opening this Christmas.
