Janelle Monáe & 10 Proud LGBTQ Celebrities of Color

Southern songstress Janelle Monáe recently clarified rumors surrounding her sexuality, revealing that she is pansexual, defined as someone not limited in sexual choice with regard to biological sex, gender or gender identity.

“Being a queer Black woman in America, someone who has been in relationships with both men and women, I consider myself to be a free-ass mother*cker,” she told Rolling Stone in June 2018. “Later, I read about pansexuality and was like, ‘Oh, these are things that I identify with, too.’ I’m open to learning more about who I am.”

Monáe is far from the first celebrity of color to come out as pansexual or to proudly identify as a member of the LGBTQ community. Check out these other stars who have embraced their true selves below.
