Janet Jackson Headlines Gender Doc

Janet Jackson

Like most mega superstars, Janet Jackson has amassed fans from every background and every gender, including those from the transgendered and nongendered communities. Jackson has always been one to speak out about issues she feels strongly about, and recently the singer-actress has decided to raise awareness and advocacy for those specific communities by serving as an executive producer for the new documentary "Truth." In a press release regarding her participation in the film, Jackson revealed her motivation for this cause. "All people are very important to me. I've been fortunate to make friends and learn about very different lives. Truth is our small chance to ask that you try and understand someone who lives their life in a way that is a little bit different from yours, even though all of our hearts are the same."

The film, which is said to center on "a journey through the lives of trans- and nongendered people around the world and their epic struggle for equality," will be directed by Robert Jason. Jason, who is understandably beyond excited that Jackson has shown a deep interest in the film, has also spoken to the media, saying that the public needs to learn about what transgendered people face: "This film will highlight landmark mainstream stories and provide a glimpse at others that will change the gender landscape of the world forever. Just as it is hard to believe that there ever was a time when different components of society were required to use separate drinking fountains, it is as incredible that one's gender expression remains just such a target for discrimination."

The production for "Truth" is scheduled to begin this summer.
