Rapper 21 Savage has found support from JAY-Z, following his arrest by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) over the weekend, according to TMZ.

The “4:44” rapper said that 21 Savage’s arrest was “an absolute travesty” and along with Roc Nation, JAY-Z’s company, hired an attorney to represent him.

“We are not going to stop until he is released, bonded out or in front of a judge,” said attorney Alex Spiro. “What we have here is someone who overstayed their Visa with an application pending for 4 years – not a convicted criminal that needs to be detained and removed but, by all accounts a wonderful person, father, and entertainer who has a marijuana offense which was vacated and sealed.”

21 Savage, whose real name is Shayaabin Abraham-Joseph, was arrested in Atlanta on Sunday by ICE after the agency said that the “Bank Account” rapper is from the U.K. and was illegally in the country after his nonimmigrant visa expired in 2006.

“Mr. Abraham-Joseph is presently in ICE custody in Georgia and has been placed into removal proceedings before the federal immigration courts,” ICE said in a statement to CNN.

Sources tell TMZ that the musician reapplied for a U visa in 2017 that prompted a background check, which flagged officials that his visa had expired.

Social media users praised JAY-Z for using his position to help a fellow artist.
