Sports journalist Jemele Hill slammed people using racial disparity to protest Bill Cosby’s sexual assault case sentencing on Tuesday.
Cosby was sentenced to three to 10 years in prison for drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand in 2004. Several people compared the disgraced comedian’s prison time to White celebrities who have evaded the court system after being accused of sexual misconduct, including Harvey Weinstein.

Hill acknowledged the racial “imbalance in our criminal justice system.” She reacted on Twitter, writing, “Your position can’t be, because Cosby is black, he should get the right to rape without repercussions like a white dude. Trash position.”

Before her criticism, the former ESPN host acknowledged how Cosby’s legacy influenced her life. “Sure, I mourn the idea of Cosby — as in the TV show that made me want to attend a black college and heightened the importance of a black family.” Hill revealed, however, that she escaped a rape attempt and that her mother is a rape survivor.
