Joe Jackson Reacts to Quincy Jones Claiming Son Michael Stole Music

Joe Jackson

It appears Quincy Jones’ recent interviews aren’t sitting well with the family members of Marvin Gaye or Michael Jackson, whom the legendary producer claims stole songs, including the hook for hit, “Billie Jean.”

In a quick Q&A with TMZ, the King of Pop’s father, Joe Jackson, says Jones should “know better” than to accuse his son of stealing.

“I raised Michael, he’s my son. Quincy Jones knows better.”

During his controversial interview with Vulture, Jones claimed his Thriller collaborator stole the chorus from Donna Summer’s “State of Independence” for “Billie Jean.” Jones was the producer for both records.

“I hate to get into this publicly, but Michael stole a lot of stuff,” he said when asked what the public may not have known about his late friend. “He stole a lot of songs. [Donna Summer’s] ‘State of Independence’ and ‘Billie Jean.’ The notes don’t lie, man. He was as Machiavellian as they come.”

“Greedy, man. Greedy,” Jones continued after being asked to expound on the statement. “‘Don’t Stop ’Til You Get Enough’ — Greg Phillinganes wrote the c section. Michael should’ve given him 10 percent of the song. Wouldn’t do it.”
