The blessings keep rolling in for writer/director/producer Jordan Peele.
Following the success of his self-made film Get Out, which made a whopping $194 million in theaters across the world, Universal Pictures wants to further advance their relationship with the filmmaker.
The production studio signed Peele to a 2-year, first look deal with the filmmaker’s Monkeypaw Productions. Universal will premiere Peele’s next social thriller film, which he will write, direct and produce. The budget for Peele’s next film will be five times bigger than the $5 million that was used for Get Out.
“Through extraordinary imagination and fearless humor, Jordan has proven himself to be a game-changer who is driven to tell stories that are as commercially entertaining as they are disruptive and provocative,” Universal Chairman Donna Langley told The Hollywood Reporter. “The entire Universal family takes great pride in his incomparable filmmaking debut, and feel fortunate that this studio will be Jordan’s home for many years to come.”
As part of the deal, Peele will produce projects that address issues pertaining to underrepresented social constructs related to gender, race, or sexual orientation.
“I am thrilled to continue the work we started together on Get Out — pushing the boundaries of storytelling, not only on the next film, but with all of Monkeypaw’s future projects,” said Peele while speaking with THR.
