Tensions were high on Jimmy Kimmel Live as the late show host eased into a reconciliation with Kanye West following their celebrity Twitter tussle. Kimmel seemed to be pulling teeth — or a grill — when he asked West about their feud, which began last month when the late show spoofed West’s recent BBC interview, casting children as both the rapper and Radio 1 host Zane Lowe. Kimmel said he parodied the interview because he liked to see kids curse — not because he equated West with a child. Yeezy then admitted ego played a part in the online battle and added, “we kind of just took it back to high school for a bit.” “I got beat up a lot in high school so I didn’t want to go back to high school,” Kimmel quipped.
But lighthearted détente quickly turned into a conversation about celebrity scrutiny, with the late show host accusing West of bringing it on himself. “A lot of people think you’re a jerk,” he added playfully, before conceding that West had a softer side. Further extending the olive branch, Kimmel gifted West with toddler leather jogging pants — a reference to the knock he made on the rapper when mocking the BBC interview.
Not that West dwelled too much on their peace-making. Instead, he talked about his favorite topics — his talent and passion for fashion. He told Kimmel he would be lying if he didn’t call himself a “creative genius.”
