Kerry Washington may be ruling Thursday nights on the hit ABC show Scandal, but soon she’ll be flexing her talents in a new arena: animated films. The actress and producer recently joined the cast of Pixar’s Cars 3 as a numbers-crunching statistical analyst named Natalie Certain.

A press release announcing her addition called Natalie Certain “a highly respected statistical analyst who knows her numbers. Book-smart and mathematically gifted, Certain may earn top marks in her ability to evaluate a racer’s stats, but she could be underestimating the importance of determination.”

Cars 3 reunites the film’s lovable characters from Radiator Springs for an adventure fans won’t soon forget.

Here’s how the studio describes the forthcoming project:

Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez (voice of Cristela Alonzo), with her own plan to win, plus inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’ t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’ s biggest stage!

In addition to Washington, newcomers to the Cars cast includes Modern Family’s Nathan Fillion Orange is the New Black’s Lea DeLaria, and Black British Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton.

Cars 3 roars into theaters on June 16.
