LaTanya Young has had her name blowing up on timelines as she told the Daily Mail about how her father, Andre Young, is refusing to support her.
Andre Young, better known as the hip-hop legend Dr. Dre, has yet to comment, but his 38-year-old daughter—and single mother of four—has shocked people by revealing that she is homeless and living out of a rental car.
LaTanya shared that she had reached out to her famous father for help, but had not received any money from him in 18 months. To make ends meet, she works as a delivery driver for DoorDash and Uber Eats, as well as an assembler at a warehouse—but still can’t afford an apartment in California.
She added that she hadn’t seen her dad in 18 years and communicated with him through his team.
“My kids are staying with friends—they are not living in the car, it’s just me,” Young told the Daily Mail. “I’m taking odd jobs just to make it now—I got paid $15 an hour as an assembler at the warehouse. I’m just trying to keep my head above water. I’ve been in debt for a while.”
Young, who moved to California one month ago after struggling to find work in Nevada, now fears she will lose her vehicle.
“The car is a pretty penny,” she said about the rental. “It’s an SUV that costs $2,300 for three weeks and I only paid for one week. Sooner or later they are going to take the car.”
With wages still not enough to pay for an apartment rental across the country, in general, Young says that she has to rely on friends and family to get around. “I have friends and family that will let us come back and forth, but the majority of the time I’m living out of my car,” she shared.
Dr. Dre split from LaTanya’s mother when she was only five years old, and she confessed that his lawyer told her that she would not receive any financial help due to speaking out about him to the press in the past.
His daughter’s interview has lit the internets on fire, as the chart-topping, future Rock & Roll Hall of Fame producer and executive is known to almost be worth $1 billion dollars. Dre’s venture into the headphone business with Beats by Dr. Dre made him one of the richest men in the music industry. The company was acquired by Apple for $3 billion in 2014 and Dre pocketed $585 million before taxes, bringing his net worth up to $800 million, according to Forbes in 2019.
Recently, Dre was ordered to pay his ex-wife, Nicole Young, $300,000 a month in spousal support. The two are going through a bitter divorce and a court order states that Dre, who also suffered a brain aneurysm in January, will have to pay support “until the party receiving support remarrries or enters into a new domestic partnership, [or the] death of either party.”
Dr. Dre and his team have yet to respond to his daughter’s claims.
