New Zealand singer Lorde has issued an apology after being called out by fans over a thoughtless joke involving Whitney Houston and a half-full bathtub.
The “Royals” songstress posted a photo on Instagram of a tub filling up with water, alongside the caption, “And iiii will always love you,” referencing Houston’s Grammy-winning hit from The Bodyguard soundtrack. Unfortunately, it was lost on the singer that Houston was found dead, face down in a filled bathtub in the Beverly Hills Hilton back in 2012.
The photo prompted fans of the legend to call Lorde out for the insensitive post. She soon realized, removed the post and shared this apology via Instagram:
“Extremely extremely poorly chosen quote, I’m so sorry for offending anyone — I hadn’t even put this together I was just excited to take a bath. I’m an idiot. Love Whitney forever and ever. Sorry again.”
Do you believe the joke was an honest mistake?
