Fifteen years following the release of Bad Boys II, Martin Lawrence and Will Smith have been confirmed for the sequel, Bad Boys for Life. Lawrence shared the news on Instagram on Wednesday with a picture of himself alongside his co-star.

“It’s official. Bad Boys for Life … #weback,” the Martin star captioned the image.

Rumors of a sequel spread for years.  Sony reportedly began pre-production for the action film appointing Joe Carnahan to direct a few years ago. According to The Hollywood Reported, Carnahan departed from the project because of difference with producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

In Aug. 2017, Lawrence told Entertainment Weekly, “I don’t think we’re going to get one,” regarding another Bad Boys sequel.

He cited scheduling issues as the main reason. “Not the way everything [is] turning out. Will is off doing another movie, and I don’t think it’s going to happen.”

At the time the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star was likely working on the lead role of the Netflix feature film, Bright, or his role as Genie for the 2019 release of Disney’s remake of Aladdin.

According to Comicbook.com, Smith signed on to the film last month and the Bad Boys 3 is eyeing a 2020 release date.
