Mary J. Blige, “All Fun and Games” (Think Like a Man Too Soundtrack)

The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul reminds us just how good she is when it comes to singing about heartache and pain on this new joint from the Think Like a Man Too soundtrack. “All Fun and Games” is about the games people sometimes play when it comes to toying with people’s emotions. “It’s all fun and games ’til somebody gets hurt,” Mary sings on the chorus. It’s an emotionally charged warning about what happens when people take game playing too far. The Think Like a Man Too soundtrack is in stores today.

Jennifer Lopez, A.K.A.

Jennifer Lopez is trying hard to show us all that she’s still got it. One thing’s for sure, she looks great and definitely still moves like her twentysomething former self. But musically, A.K.A. is kinda… okay. She teamed up with hitmakers like Max Martin and Chris Brown and collaborated with the likes of Iggy Azalea, Rick Ross and Nas. She also sings a lot about hook-ups, being the same girl she was, not being the same girl she was (seriously) and… stuff.  But if you’re a diehard J.Lo fan, you’ll be happy to know that A.K.A. is out today.

Jay Z, “The Jungle (Remix)”

Jay Z remixed “The Jungle” for a special edition of the Beats by Dre “The Game Before the Game” ad, which premiered during game five of the NBA Finals. Sonically, the beat is part rock, part hip-hop—think along the lines of classic Run-DMC or the Beastie Boys, but with Jigga flowing over top.

Marsha Ambrosius, “Run”

Marsha Ambrosius brings us visuals to her heartfelt ballad “Run” a few weeks after the song’s debut. The visuals match her painful lyrics; each actor is seen in a vulnerable state, in a visceral story of overcoming struggles that come along with life and love. “Run” is the second release from her forthcoming album, Friends & Lovers, due out July 15.

Chauncy Black, “Headboard Knockin’ ”

Chauncy Black, one of the founding members of Blackstreet, has released new solo material. And it doesn’t sound like much has changed, which is a good thing. “Headboard Knockin’ ” is a standard R&B song about bumping and grinding (sorry, couldn’t resist). “She likes the music turned up, but I would keep it down, down, down/So I can hear the sound of the headboard knockin’,” he sings on the chorus in his signature tenor/alto. This is definitely one for the slow jamz (yup, “jamz” with a “z,” for the youngins who missed the ’90s) playlist.

Ann Nesby, Living My Life

Ann Nesby of Sounds of Blackness fame is serving us some of that optimistic realness that we love so much. Her latest, Living My Life, is part gospel, kind of EDM, kind of club, and all love. She sings her heart out on every uplifting track. This is one you can throw on at summer cookouts, or anywhere actually.
