Meghan Markle’s Mother Reacts to Royal Pregnancy

News broke Monday morning that Meghan Markle is expecting her first child with husband, Prince Harry. Markle’s mother, Doris Ragland, couldn’t be happier and shared a statement with ET.

“Ms. Ragland is very happy about this lovely news, and she looks forward to welcoming her first grandchild,” read a statement from Kensington Palace.

The Kensington Palace, the official London residence of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, also announced that the family would be expecting via social media.

“Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019,” Kensington Palace tweeted.

According to People.com, Markle is 12 weeks pregnant and doing well. The duchess reportedly sought medical advice about the Zika virus, which can lead to birth defects including microcephaly, a condition that results in small head size due to abnormal brain development. The royal couple is scheduled to travel to Fiji and Tonga, where there is some risk of contracting the virus .
