On Sunday, former Spice Girl Mel B announced her plan to go to rehab after she was diagnosed with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In a statement made to The Sun, the singer revealed having an “incredibly difficult” few months and using alcohol and sex as escapes.

“I’ve been working with a writer on my book, Brutally Honest, and it has been unbelievably traumatic reliving an emotionally abusive relationship and confronting so many massive issues in my life,” Mel B reportedly said. “I am being very honest about drinking to numb my pain but that is just a way a lot of people mask what is really going on.”

The American’s Got Talent judge finalized her divorce from Stephen Belafonte in December 2017 after allegations of physical, sexual and emotional abuse.

Further, in the statement, Mel B said, “Sometimes it is too hard to cope with all the emotions I feel. But the problem has never been about sex or alcohol—it is underneath all that. I am fully aware I have been at a crisis point. No one knows myself better than I do, but I am dealing with it.”

The treatment center will be located in the U.K. because the “very, very British” singer believes it will work best for her.
