Will Michael K. Williams Need a Lightsaber for His Next Role? Maybe

Michael K. Williams is best known for his brilliant portrayal of Omar Little, a shotgun-toting stick-up man who targeted Baltimore’s drug dealers, on HBO’s The Wire. And while the New York native has gone on to play a host of memorable characters on screen in projects like Bessie, Boardwalk Empire, and The Night Of, his next role will take him to a galaxy far, far away.

According to, Williams is joining the cast of the upcoming–and still untitled–Han Solo Star Wars film. Though there’s no word yet on what role Williams will play, explained why the veteran actor was tapped for the role.

Michael Kenneth Williams is going from his hometown of Brooklyn, New York, to a galaxy far, far away. is thrilled to announce that Williams has officially signed on for the upcoming untitled Han Solo Star Wars movie. Williams comes to Star Wars having played many memorable roles in both TV and film, including Omar Little in The Wire and Albert “Chalky” White in Boardwalk Empire, bringing charisma, humanity, and nobility to all his performances.

The film, which is scheduled to hit theaters in 2018, will focus on Han Solo’s early years, and Atlanta star Donald Glover will star in the film as Lando Calrissian, Han Solo’s friend and comrade, a role made famous by Billy Dee Williams. In addition to Williams and Glover, the Star Wars spin-off will also feature Thandie Newton.

Star War’s Hans Solo film will be released May 25, 2018.
