Michelle Obama Appears on Letterman

Making her first appearance on "The Late Show With David Letterman" this week, Michelle Obama opened up to America about a family member who hasn't been publicly profiled very often–her late father, who suffered from multiple sclerosis and was unable to walk because of the crippling condition. The First Lady became teary eyed while reminiscing about the important role he played in her life:

“I think I learned from him the notion of unconditional love, the notion that kids don’t really need anything but to know that their parents adore them. I think that’s the greatest gift they gave us, just their constant support and stability. We had rules, we had boundaries, but there wasn’t anything our dad wouldn’t do for us,”

Letterman's feathers did seem to be a bit ruffled, though, when Michelle brought up Oprah Winfrey and her former talk show to the late night host. “Don’t make me cry. This isn’t ‘Oprah!’," Michelle joked, to lighten up the mood. "This is supposed to be Letterman. Where are the laughs?” Letterman immediately replied, “Did somebody tell you this was ‘Oprah? Is that why you're here?" Clearly, Letterman has some insecurity issues when it comes to the queen of media.

Seeing as March is MS Awareness Month, will Michelle's revealing discussion of her father help spotlight and bring awareness to this disease?
