Michelle Obama Meets 2-Year-Old in Awe of Her Portrait

On Tuesday, Michelle Obama met with  2-year-old Parker Curry who was pictured staring in awe at the former first lady’s portrait.

Parker’s photo in front of the portrait that hangs in the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. went viral last week. It was captured and shared by Ben Hines a fellow visitor to the gallery on March 1.

After the image went viral Parker’s mother, Jessica Curry did an interview with CNN  where she discussed her daughter’s genuine amazement and the importance of representation.

“Parker was in front of the portrait, and I really wanted her to turn around so I could get a picture with her, and she genuinely, honestly would not turn around.” Curry revealed that Parker believed Mrs. Obama to be a queen.

Obama shared a video on Twitter of her and 2-year-old Parker Curry in the middle of a dance party. She wrote under the video, “Parker, I’m so glad I had the chance to meet you today (and for the dance party)! Keep on dreaming big for yourself…and maybe one day I’ll proudly look up at a portrait of you!”

Amy Sherald is the African-American artist who painted the portrait of Mrs. Obama.
