Mela Machinko – “What Do You Want Me to Do (I’m Sorry)”
Mela Machinko is known for raucous witticisms, quirkiness and, best of all, her beautiful voice. The Brooklyn native made a name for herself by touring with and lending vocals to hip-hop heavy hitters like Joe Budden, Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch and more, but she’s stepping out on her own for a unique brand of soulful music that her fans will love. “What Do You Want Me to Do (I’m Sorry)” is the first offering from her forthcoming project, Hovi Said It Best. The project is a dedication to Jay-Z’s feature on Mya’s “Best of Me,” using Jay-Z lyrics as inspiration to tell her own story in clever ways. “What Do You Want Me to Do (I’m Sorry)” is a quaint but also prickly apology for not being in love with (insert poor sap’s name here).

Nina Sky – “Now Is the Time”
Nina Sky is back with a new venture following the release of their most recent album, Nicole & Natalie. The New York City based twin duo has teamed up with Stoli Vodka to release “Now Is the Time,” which can be downloaded on Stoli’s newly launched online platform, ORGNL.TV. “Now Is the Time” is a fast-paced dance track best suited for instant motivation.

Alicia Keys – “Girl on Fire” (Video)
I mused about the “Girl on Fire” single in a previous Sonic Boom, but now the actual video is here. Those who like to look at Alicia Keys can watch her sing about being “on fire” awash in yellow, green, then red lighting, as she sings an ode to women who do the most in life (in a good way). “Girl on Fire” is from an album with the same name, due out November 27.

Sean Price – “Bar-Barian”
Boot Camp Clik’s Sean Price is gearing up to release his next project, Mic Tyson, on October 30. “Bar-Barian,” produced by the Alchemist, is a hardcore offering from said project where Price rhymes about “cornball rappers” and “bozos who ain’t rhyming right”… and, of course, smacking hellfire out of people. It’s Goonery at its finest.

G-Scott ft. Njomza – “Fool’s Gold”
The 21-year-old rapper and producer hails from Gary, Indiana, and he’s signed to Freddie Gibbs Straight Slammin’ label. He has been buzzing since 2009 after releasing a series of well-received mixtapes, and has shared the stage with acts like Wiz Khalifa, Travis Porter and more. “Fools Gold” is a release from his forthcoming album, 1983 (set for November). Njomza sings her heart out on the hook as G-Scott raps about the ups and downs of love and trying to figure out the meaning of life.
