Nick Cannon Discusses Health on “Good Morning America”

This morning on “Good Morning America,” Nick Cannon revealed that his recent health issues are due to kidney problems caused by an “autoimmune disease” that doctors found in his system. The America’s Got Talent” host, who’s never been shy about his love for working out, said that the disease is linked to lupus but doesn’t stem from genetics. Cannon was hospitalized in January during a ski trip and again in February for blood clots in his lungs, a condition linked to the kidney disease. He stepped down from his radio show shortly after.

The 31-year-old also talked about the loving support from his wife, Mariah Carey. “I call her Dr. Carey,” he said about the Grammy-winning singer. “She just takes care of me and makes sure I’m eating what I’m supposed to be eating… They don’t know she’s at home making egg whites. Taking two babies in one arm and grilling in the other.” The couple will be celebrating the first birthdays of their twin babies next month. “In the hospital, that’s the first thing that comes to your mind,” he recalled. “I have to be around for my children and I have to be healthy for my children, so they’re the motivation for the whole thing.”

With Cannon speaking out about his lupus-like condition will it bring more positive attention to the disease? Also, is it safe to say that the demands of being as busy as Nick is may have contributed to him being sick?
