Nicki Minaj Joins “American Idol”

Idol Nicki Minaj

While it's been rumored for several weeks now that ubiquitous rapper Nicki Minaj would be joining the revamped "American Idol" judges panel, Fox finally confirmed the rumors this Sunday. Minaj and fellow new judges Mariah Carey and Keith Urban began their judging duties that same day, kicking off "Idol" auditions in New York City's Lincoln Center. "New York auditions today & tomorrow! See ya there barbz!!!!!!!!! AmericanIdol," tweeted Minaj on Sunday.

In Fox's announcement, Minaj was noted for her "unique performance style and iconic fashion," as well as becoming "the first female solo artist to have seven singles simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 chart."

According to another head honcho at "Idol" headquarters, the rapper "represents a different side of the music industry, who has now crossed into mainstream culture with her unique artistry, style, and flair." Many took to Twitter to congratulate the "Pink Friday: ROMAN RELOADED" rapper, including labelmate Birdman and her legion of fans, also known as the "Barbz."
