Rapper Freeway underwent successful transplant surgery after years of battling kidney failure.
“What’s up everybody? Thank y’all for the prayers and all your support. Everything went well, the surgery went well,” Freeway said in an Instagram video posted Tuesday. “I’m in recovery. God is good. I got the new kidney. The doctor said everything is fine. Thank y’all man, I really felt the prayers. It meant a lot.”
The Roc Nation rapper told his fans on Feb. 4 that doctors finally found him a kidney donor. He shared the news while he awaited the operation in a Baltimore hospital.
In July 2018, the Philadelphia native spoke to EBONY about living with kidney disease, being on the transplant list and how his faith in God kept him active.
Freeway was diagnosed with kidney failure in 2015 after a routine check-up. For the next three years, he underwent daily dialysis and openly discussed his health issues on albums including Free Will and Think Free.
