R&B singer R. Kelly was a no-show in court on Tuesday and lost a civil suit by default, the Chicago Tribune reports. Kelly’s lawyers failed to answer the suit and appear in court as well.

A woman only identified as H.W. filed a civil suit against the singer in February, accusing him of sexually abusing her when she was 16 in 1998.

Jeffrey Deutschman, the accuser’s lawyer told PEOPLE, they will return to court on May 8 to determine how much money the singer will have to pay in damages.

This loss is the most recent legal blow the crooner has taken in recent months.

In February, two women came forward with claims that Kelly had sex with underage minors. That same month, prosecutors hit Kelly with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sex abuse, reports TMZ. Nine of the 10 counts involve alleged victims ranging in ages from 13 to 16. After turning himself in to police, the singer spent three days in prison. A female friend paid the singer’s bail and he was released.

After an explosive interview with Gayle King in March, the singer was taken back into police custody for failure to pay back child support. Later that month, a judge refused to lower Kelly’s $21,000 monthly child support payments to his wife. The singer’s publicist said he has no way of paying support.

Kelly has vehemently denied all of the claims made against him.
