Rachel Dolezal is currently facing charges of felony theft in Washington state after allegedly lying to secure over $9,000 in government welfare assistance.

The Jasmine Brand reports the former NAACP chapter president, who changed her name to Nkechi Diallo in 2016, allegedly made false statements on government forms with the intent of defrauding the welfare system. She’s also been charged with perjury.

The Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) stated they began looking into Dolezal’s financial records following the release of her memoir, In Full Color: Finding My Place in a Black and White World. They were reportedly under the impression, “her only source of income was $300.00 per month in gifts from friends,” according to the department.

They later discovered Dolezal deposited almost $84,000 in her bank account between August 2015 and September 2017 without reporting it while also receiving $8,747 in food assistance and $100 in child care assistance illegally.

Currently, Dolezal is still earning cash from her memoir, Netflix documentary and hair styling business she runs out of her home.
