The stigma surrounding mental health in the Black community is still prominent enough to keep some from seeking help. With open discussion, however, comes education and empathy. Jada Pinkett Smith welcomes rapper Kid Cudi to the latest episode of Facebook Watch series Red Table Talk to discuss the mental health struggles they’ve both faced over the years.
Check out exclusive clips from Monday’s episode below.
In the below preview clips, Jada describes having an “emotional breakdown” that took a toll on her “mental stability” after moving to Los Angeles. The glitz and glamour overwhelmed the Baltimore native, eventually leading her to contemplate suicide. The actress goes on to share how she came to grips with the fact that she had a nervous breakdown. The mother of three then confesses to suffering from depression for years, making it difficult to get out of bed every morning.
Later, Kid Cudi takes a seat at The Red Table to discuss the first time he realized he may suffer from a mental health condition. He then confesses to being ashamed of his mental health struggles, hiding it from those closest to him.
The new episode of Red Table Talk will air Dec. 17 at 9 a.m. PST/12 p.m. EST on Facebook.
