Rihanna has hardly ever been one to put on airs. And part of what makes the woke “Work” singer so authentic is that she doesn’t advertise her wokeness.

On Tuesday, a Twitter user who goes by “savage” suggested she throw some trans representation into the next campaign for her new Fenty Beauty makeup line. Rihanna gave the perfect response while condemning corporate America’s propensity for tokenizing and feigning diversity values:

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with many gifted trans women throughout the years, but I don’t go around doing trans casting! Just like I don’t do straight non trans women castings! I respect all women, and whether they’re trans or not is none of my business! It’s personal and some trans women are more comfortable being open about it than others so I have to respect that as a woman myself! I don’t think it’s fair that a trans woman, or man, be used as a marketing tool! Too often do I see companies doing this to trans and black women alike! There’s always just one spot in the campaign for the token “we look mad diverse” girl/guy! It’s sad!”

Savage was clearly a fan of RiRi’s response. He re-tweeted his interaction with the singer, writing: “When I thought she couldn’t teach me more.” He even threw in a heart emoji.

Rihanna even followed him but we’re not sure if that took place before or after this exchange. What matters is they clearly respect each other’s viewpoints and it just feels like we’re living in a decent universe now.

This wasn’t the first time Rihanna aficionados have urged the singer to add trans models to the Fenty campaign. When trans model Munroe Bergdorf was fired from L’Oréal for condemning White supremacy, Twitter crusaded for the makeup brand to sign Bergdorf. It never happened but Bergdorf eventually found a home at one of L’Oréal’s rival brands Illamasqua.
