There’s a commonality between hip-hop and sports that often goes underestimated. To rise to the top of both fields, there’s a level of dedication, sacrifice, and commitment that only a few can ascend. Only those who have taken the time to master their craft from all angles can break the rules, and Serena Williams hasn’t just smashed glass ceilings, she’s changed the entire game of tennis.

Even after being named Sports Illustrated’s Sportsperson of the year in 2015, Serena Williams outdid herself in 2016 with many (including us) applauding her as one of the greatest athletes of all time. Now, she’ll close out the year with The Undefeated In-Depth: Serena with Common.

The show, which will air on ESPN and WatchESPN, features Common as host as he and Williams speak intimately about fame, sports, race and gender.

The Williams sisters have always faced controversy throughout their careers, and it’ll be interesting to see these two tackle the tough topics.

“I think in the beginning of this journey we were definitely misunderstood. We may have said some things that people couldn’t relate to,” the star shares in the special’s trailer.
