Serena Williams

Serena Williams learned earlier this month that she is drug tested more frequently than other top tennis players. On Tuesday, the 23-time Grand Slam champion said she believes those statistics exist because of discrimination.

Williams tweeted that she was the only one to be “randomly” drug tested. She expressed frustration over the number of times she has experienced it. “Out of all the players it’s been proven I’m the one getting tested the most. Discrimination? I think so,” she wrote.

It was reported that Williams had been tested five times before the tweet. That is more than double the amount of tests administered to other American tennis players.

Despite the unfairness in the testing, Williams complies because she has always promoted playing a clean sport. However, she asks that everyone is tested equally and fairly.

One commenter brought humor to the situation and presented the conspiracy theory that they are trying to clone Williams’ genes. “Maybe in secret they’re stealing your dna for a future nation of tennis pros?” The user wrote.  A notion she says has crossed her mind.

Williams will return to the tennis court at the Rogers Cup beginning Aug. 3 at the IGA Stadium in Montreal.
