Plant yourself on your favorite pew. Last night’s “Mary Mary” on WE TV left ample room for signifying with Side Eyes and Church Waves. After last week’s back and forth about a postponed tour and Tina’s spreading girth, episode three began with a quarter of a million dollar financial loss (ouch!) and, oh, wonder of wonders: Tina MAY be pregnant, too. Lawd.
Tina “forgot” to take her birth control pills whilst regularly horizontally tango-ing with her adorable hubby, Teddy. She “thinks” she may be pregnant. Tina is far too old and this is borderline irresponsible. Did I mention that Teddy says that he really does not want more children?
Didn’t Erica’s doctor put her on quasi-bed rest? WHY is she still waddling around in pain? Taking meetings? Cleaning the kitchen? She eventually draws the ire of her mother, Honey (*church wave*), who swings by for a visit. Get her, Mama Honey!
Due to the tour cancellation, the sisters’ manager, Mitchell, informs their stylist/sister, Goo Goo, that there will be mandatory salary reductions for all vendors. Goo Goo refuses. Since she has no contract, I’m not sure how she figures her demands will be met. I also wonder how this makes the other vendors feel; they’d toiled just as hard to create an excellent tour.
What’s more? Goo Goo asks for a retainer in the midst of a financial crisis. “Either we can do a retainer or y’all can find another stylist.”, yells Goo Goo before she stomps off. Girl, you want to be treated like a professional but you’re storming out of meetings like a ten year old? Ooookkkkkaaaaayyyyyy.
When he hears that Tina needs to take a pregnancy test in the middle of yet ANOTHER emergency OB/GYN appointment, Erica’s husband, Warryn, draws a nerve to ask: “Tina’s pregnant again?! If she’s pregnant, I’m not making money.” Sir! Aren’t you one to talk? And isn’t your wife currently with child? These girls STAY pregnant.com. Both of them…
Feeding into the monster that is Goo Goo and despite the sister-stylist having quit abruptly, Erica calls and asks if Goo Goo can find her an outfit to wear to an event…on sister love. Goo Goo says she’s with another “client”. Sure she is; yet she drops everything and comes through.
The sisters’ outfits at the awards soiree for their attorney? Dreadful. A straight, horizontally striped maxi dress for Erica, petite pregnant woman? Low-rise cobalt jeans for that badonkadonk of Tina’s? Goo Goo should pay her sisters for being willing to wear such atrocities.
Mary Mary’nem LOVE their fans; they clearly wear it on their sleeves. Though it’s not good that they feel badly, they are concerned about those who have bought tickets. In our mostly “Me, Me, Me” society, their compassion for their fans is a breath of fresh air. We find them following up the cancellation announcement with a video blog and personal tweets to ticket buyers, fans and friends. #Amazing! If only more artists appreciated the power of social media…
Though Tina is frustrated with Erica about waiting so late to cancel the tour, she tempers a stressful financial situation with “Mama and Daddy did not raise us to chase money.” It’s all about perspective.
“No retainer. No Goo Goo.” The sisters are not bullied into Goo Goo’s demands for a retainer and her abrupt “resignation”. Whilst I do believe there should be a formal agreement between all parties, a strong arm is never a good idea. What is this? Mob Wives?
Yes, you’re seeing double as this is ALSO a good thing: Feeding into the monster that is Goo Goo and despite the sister-stylist having quit abruptly, Erica calls and asks if Goo Goo can find her an outfit to wear to an event…on sister love. Goo Goo says she’s with another “client”. Sure she is; yet she drops everything and comes through. Hey! I’m a big sister; I get it.
