NEW YORK - February 13, 2018: Whoopi Goldberg attends a screening of "Black Panther" at the Museum of Modern Art on February 13, 2018, in New York City.
There’s bittersweet news to report for fans of Sister Act and Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit—the comedy classics will be reinvented for a new generation but without Sister Mary Clarence herself, Whoopi Goldberg.
The View talk show host first announced during an interview with Good Morning Britain in September that she would not be reprising the hilarious role. Instead, the television movie will be a reimagining of the Sister Act story with a possible cameo from the EGOT winner.
“We’ve been all over Disney begging and they’ve decided that they’re going to go in a different direction with Sister Act. So it won’t be Sister Act 3, it’ll be a brand new rendition of Sister Act,” Goldberg explained. “And I guess I’ll walk through a scene and that’s how they’ll say I was part of it.”
“It is our understanding that this is not a continuation and Whoopi is not involved.”
Plot details of Sister Act 3 are being kept under wraps but Variety reports that Insecure co-executive producer Regina Hicks and Star showrunner Karin Gist have been tapped to pen the script for Disney’s newly named streaming service, Disney+.
