Whenever you discuss political ideals, things get intense. And this year’s road to #Election2016 has been no different.

Everyone and their mama seems to know it all when it comes to how to effectively run the country, what the people of America need and who can best lead the land. The race has revealed some very thoughtful analysis, but not without a bit of ridiculous racist and sexist rhetoric.

Needless to say, a select few news analysts weren’t having it. From Al Roker going in on Billy Bush for defending Ryan Lochte’s white privilege to Soledad O’Brien’s polite read of Trump’s “normalizing” of racism, here’s a look back on some of our favorite anchors checking white, racially-insensitive and/or hateful rhetoric.

Memory Lane: That one time Tamron Hall checked Scott Baio

Who can forget Tamron Hall’s subtle strike into Scott Baio after he tweeted a sexist image of Hillary Clinton? The former Happy Days star appeared on a July segment of Hall’s MSNBC program following remarks made at the Republican National Convention.

The two discussed his comments that America was “in a bad spot right now” and that Trump “needed to fix it.” In addition to calling Baio out on a number of contradictions, Hall caught him in a lie on national television — which, if we’re being honest, is something that some Conservatives aren’t too new to. In case you missed it, watch the very necessary exchange below.

Al Roker was here for Rio, Not Lochte

While the rest of White America was hellbent on giving Olympian Ryan Lochte a pass for fabricating a story about getting robbed at gunpoint during the Olympic Games, Today Show co-host Al Roker refused to. During a heated exchange with fellow NBC colleague Billy Bush, Roker did not accept folks’ excuses for what was obviously an act of white privilege.

“He lied,” Roker told Bush matter-of-factly. “He lied to you, he lied to Matt Lauer, he lied to his mom, he left his teammates hanging while he skedaddled.”

In response to Bush’s claim that Lochte “embellished some details,” Roker continued to drive his point home. “No. There was no robbery, there was no pull-over, there was nothing,” Roker said. “Nobody cocked a gun to his head. He lied.”

That time Don Lemon & Sheriff David Clarke went from 0 to 100 real quick

Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke’s appearance on CNN with Don Lemon is certainly one for the books! The law enforcement official wasted no time expressing his disdain for the Black Lives Matter movement, claiming it was responsible for the deaths of police officers in Baton Rouge and Dallas. What he failed to do was shut down Mr. Lemon. Although he had every opportunity to bow out of the confrontational interview, Don held his own and continued to press Sheriff Clarke on his claims. This one is just bizarre.

Soledad O’Brien brings it on home by slaying Trump

Anyone with eyes can see that Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump appeals to a certain caliber of Americans. They’re loud, racist and disrespectful, but somehow they get their 15 minutes of fame. During an appearance on CNN, Soledad O’Brien weighed in on whether or not the press is “normalizing” Trump.

“What Donald Trump has done actually quite well is normalize white supremacy, one of a long list of things that I think Americans would find distasteful,” the news analyst said in reference to previous claims made by Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. “I think she made a very good argument almost like a lawyer. Here are ways in which he has actually worked to normalize conversations that many people find hateful — listen I’ve seen on air, white supremacists being interviewed because they are Trump delegates and they do a five-minute segment the first minute or so talking about what they believe as white supremacist.”

Couldn’t have said it better myself.
