British singer Sam Smith was recently caught admitting that he isn’t a fan of the “King of Pop,” Michael Jackson.  Smith made the admission while vacationing with fellow singer Adam Lambert, telling the camera, “I don’t like Michael Jackson, but this is a good song,” as the megastar’s “Human Nature” played in the background.

MJ fans had plenty to say to the English crooner via social media, including several pointing out that some of his own music clearly draws influence from the icon. Jackson contemporary Stephanie Mills took it one step further, checking the “1 HIT WONDER,” for coming for the king.

“Don’t come for MICHAEL JACKSON when you wish you have sold as many records and you wish you were the King of Pop like he was,” said Mills via Instagram. “I’m so tired of you people studying our music, and studying our artist and claiming that you don’t like our music. Go sit your 1 HIT WONDER ass down and learn how to finish a tour.”

She went on, “When you can sell as many records as the king of Pop, Michael Jackson then maybe you can say something. So I say to you Mr. Smith have several seats and come for me if you want to.”

Mills also took issue with Smith receiving the “Best New Artist” award during the 2015 BET Awards, reminding fans that the “Stay With Me” singer allegedly called a Black woman a “Black c*nt” shortly after.

Mills shared her thoughts on “The White Washing of R&B” late last year on TVOne series Sister Circle, saying White singers like Smith and Adele are embraced and celebrated for singing Black music, while artists such as Kenny Lattimore go overlooked.

Was Smith simply sharing an unpopular opinion, or was Mills right to call him out?
