Services like Netflix, Hulu and the Urban Movie Channel (to name a few) have made it very convenient for us to binge watch our favorite shows. Just about everyday, one or all of the streaming services populate their sites with new content and sometimes, deciding what to watch can be overwhelming.

Here are three show and movie suggestions that you should check out (that’s if you haven’t already).

1. Black Mirror – NETFLIX

This British science fiction drama is reminiscent of the great sci-fi series of the 60s, The Twilight Zone. The series, created by Charlie Brooker, takes an in-depth looks at modern society, specifically how we as human beings are affected by new technology. It’s super experimental, yet thought-provoking …not to mention entertaining. If you have yet to binge watch this show, do so. You’re welcome.

2. The Handmaid’s Tale – Hulu

For those of you who may be a bit late to the party, while this show has been out for awhile, it’s still damn good. Based on the bestselling novel by Canadian autor, Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid’s Tale is set in a totalitarian, near-future New England that has overthrown the U.S. Government. Offred, a handmaid, places the protagonist in the series, and the show follows her life. Even her name, Offred, is derivative of “fred,” as handmaids are forbidden to use their birthnames, and must take the male or master that they serve. If you’re into drama, suspense and downright “what the hell,” this is your show.

3. Wishes – Urban Movie Channel

If you want to watch a movie that’s for us and by us, then the Urban Movie Channel is your go-to streaming service. Exhibit A: Wishes. This newly-released film stars Tiffany Haddish in a role that took place before she garnered critical acclaim. Alright, the plot may be a little cheesy (three inner city kids stumble upon a magical lamp at a garage sale and release a genie) but it’s certainly a gut buster.
