The New England Patriots defeated the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday in Atlanta 13-3, the lowest-scoring Super Bowl game in history.
Ratings were down 5 percent from last year’s game, which the Patriots lost to the Philadelphia Eagles, measuring a 44.9/68 in metered markets, according to Deadline.
The NFL has been fielding controversy since former San Francisco 49er quarterback Colin Kaepernick kneeled during the national anthem during the 2016-17 season to protest racism and police brutality.
Kaepernick, who opted out of his contract in 2017 and has remained unsigned, is suing the league, claiming the teams have conspired against him by not hiring him.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell opined last week that Kaepernick remains out of the NFL because teams don’t think they can with him on their roster.
“I think if a team decides that Colin Kaepernick or any other player can help their team win, that’s what they’ll do,” Goodell said on Wednesday. “They want to win and they make those decisions individually in the best interest of their club.”
