This year has been good to SZA following the release of the well-received Ctrl. The year has not only benefited her career-wise but also personally. The TDE artist has always spoken candidly about her self-doubt prior to the album’s release.
During a recent interview with DJ Semtex on BBC Radio 1Xtra, she spoke about life after Ctrl and revealed that JAY-Z told her he thought she was a “fluke.” “JAY-Z was the first person to tell me that he thought I was a fluke, to my face,” she said. “He was just like, “You’re really good, you’re pretty good,” and I was like, ‘Thanks.” He said, “I thought you were a fluke,” and I was like, “me too!”
She went on to say: “I absolutely think he meant it and that’s OK,” she continued. “I think I am every other day. I think we all do…. I question how I got into this mess all the time.”
