Netflix has unveiled 10 Black-led projects that will be available on the streaming service this month. From classic throwbacks to an Academy Award-winning film, Netflix goes above and beyond to ensure there’s quality content to suit its subscribers’ viewing pleasures.

Streaming Date: May 01
Netflix's Strong Black Lead announced its initiative to stream classic Black films. The first throwback film to be released under the plan is Robert Townsend's 1997 film B*A*P*S. The film follows two Georgia women and how their lives change after flying to Los Angeles for a music video audition.
Her Only Choice follows a woman who learns that she was pregnant after years of infertility. Her joyous moment is shattered when she's diagnosed with a life-threatening disease that forces her to choose between fighting for her life or sacrificing her child's.

Tuca & Bertie tells the tale of two 30-year-old bird women who live in the same apartment building.

Set in 1987, Pose is a dance musical that explores the LGBTQ ball culture.

Directed by Stefon Bristol, Spike Lee's protege, See You Yesterday follows high school best friends as they put their love of science together to build a backpacks that enable time travel to prevent a police-involved shooting.

The Academy Award-winning filmMoonlight tells the coming-of-age story of a young Black man growing up in Miami.
Wanda Sykes is slated to bring the laughs with her comedy special Not Normal.

Allison Williams and Logan Browning star in the thriller The Perfection. The film follows a musical prodigy who becomes obsessed with a star cello student at her former school.
Nola Darling is back for another season of Spike Lee's She's Gotta Have It. The series is a modern retelling of Lee's 1986 film of the same name. This season will reportedly follow Darling, played by DeWanda Wise, as she navigates through success, love and her fluid sexuality.

When They See Us is a four-part Netflix Original docuseries co-written and directed by Ava DuVernay. It's based on the true story that gripped the country in 1989, when five Harlem teenagers of color–Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana and Korey Wise–were convicted of a rape they did not commit.
