Serena Williams has Crip-walked into a controversy courtesy of her unfortunate remarks about the Steubenville rape case.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, the tennis star said:

“Do you think it was fair, what they got? They did something stupid, but I don’t know. I’m not blaming the girl, but if you’re a 16-year-old and you’re drunk like that, your parents should teach you—don’t take drinks from other people. She’s 16, why was she that drunk where she doesn’t remember? It could have been much worse. She’s lucky. Obviously I don’t know, maybe she wasn’t a virgin, but she shouldn’t have put herself in that position, unless they slipped her something, then that’s different.”

The clap back came quickly and swiftly – leaving Serena to offer a half-assed non-apology apology:

“What happened in Steubenville was a real shock for me. I was deeply saddened. For someone to be raped, and at only sixteen, is such a horrible tragedy! For both families involved — that of the rape victim and of the accused. I am currently reaching out to the girl’s family to let her know that I am deeply sorry for what was written in the Rolling Stone article. What was written – what I supposedly said – is insensitive and hurtful, and I by no means would say or insinuate that she was at all to blame.

“I have fought all of my career for women’s equality, women’s equal rights, respect in their fields — anything I could do to support women I have done. My prayers and support always goes out to the rape victim. In this case, most especially, to an innocent sixteen year old child.”

In his latest GQ cover story, Drake was asked about Chris Brown and had this to say: “I hear he has everything he could want now. I don’t want my name to be synonymous with that guy’s name. I really don’t. I wish we could sit down just like you and me are right now, and talk it out man-to-man. But that’s not going to happen. I’m not confrontational, but if someone challenges, I’m not going to back down. If I think about it too much, I feel it wrapping around my foot, like I get a feeling it could end really badly…Like, it gets really dark.”

How ominous, Aubrey. Like, I really hope we never have to hear about these two unless it’s in the context of a dance battle…or cry off. [Mr. L. Davis]

Also not wanting to be known for beef is J.Cole, or at least not with Diggy Simmons. Diggy fired shots at J. Cole following some comments the rapper made about his sister, Vanessa Simmons. Given the age gap in difference, J. Cole noted how “embarrassing” the beef was. He went on to say, "I respect Diggy for even doing that. It's like two diss songs in the can.” I’d leave Diggy alone, too. The tween girls who love him would’ve jumped J. Cole eventually. [Hip Hop Wired]

In her Evening Standard cover story, Alicia Keys professed her love and adoration for Rihanna. Though she doesn’t know the pop star personally, Alicia said she admires her fearlessness – and that she hopes the right people surround her.

The soul singer explained:

“[I] love her ‘style’ and her boldness, and the fact that she is, no pun intended, so unapologetic. But also, it’s such a tricky, crazy business, and when people are a little bit younger than me, I’m always hoping that their soul is good ’cause it can be such a soulless space. Who’s really loving you and making sure that you’re OK? Because everybody wants to make sure you’re OK when they can get something from you, and they’re getting a percentage from you. But they don’t technically care if you’re OK. They just wanna make sure you can stand so you can go to work. So naturally I am always thinking about people and hoping that in this very soulless place they can find completion.”

Sweet, but before y’all even think, no to a duet. We still haven’t seen the “Put It In A Love Song” video. Don’t ever deprive the world of more Beyoncé, Mrs. Beatz. [Necole Bitchie]

The musical version of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Miguel, explained his approach to his music for now and in the future with Paper magazine. On what fans can expect, he explained: “I wanted to reconnect to my peers, the people that I hang out with, the ones that go to the same bars, listen to the same music, look at the same blogs, will be at that art gallery, will be at that show. Those people, the ones that I wasn’t touching before, I had their attention.”

Meanwhile, that poor woman he leg dropped at the Billboard Awards claims that he’s practically asking for a lawsuit considering he hasn’t offered much in the way of medical assistance. Her lawyer told the AP, "She had hoped they would truly care about her rather than merely caring about themselves and some imaginary lawsuit they are defending against." [Concrete Loop, Huffington Post]

NeNe Leakes is happy to have you at her wedding – apparently set to film this weekend – only you need to be in tip top shape and if you’re running for office, she’d rather you just stay at home and watch it on TV with the rest of us. Radar Online claims to have obtained the confidentially agreement all guests have to sign before being allowed into the venue.

It is said to request guests “will not be under the influence of any medication or drugs that might impair my physical or mental ability to engage in the Activity or that might impair my judgment while engaging in the Activity.” And promise they are “not currently and during one (1) year from today do not intend to be a candidate for public office.” [Radar Online]

Lil’ Wayne would like you to know that he didn’t mean to step on the American flag at the video shoot for his new single “God Bless Amerika.” The rapper took to Twitter to defend himself from criticism, writing, “I didn’t step on the flag on purpose! It’s a scene in a video where the flag drops behind me and after it drop it’s just there as I perform.” But yeah, the flag isn’t supposed to fall to the ground at all, so there’s that. It appears that Beyoncé will continue making us wait for new music. Ne-Yo, otherwise known as the mouth of the South, told Beyoncé’s business in a new Billboard interview. On her long-awaited fifth album, the singer-songwriter and A&R exec said:

"I'm still putting stuff together for Beyoncé’s album. They're still trying to figure out what they want that to be, which I'm not mad at. Beyonce's the kind of artist where you're not gonna see it till it's right. And her fans — they love her so they'll be patient."

Patient? Maybe he was talking about some of y’all. I’m anxious and tired of waiting, but I have no choice so… [Billboard]
