The fact that Brainfeeder Records’ own Thundercat is not a worldwide household name is baffling. Even crazy when you add in the fact that the recent Grammy winner and bassist extraordinaire has got down with everyone from Tyler, The Creator to Kendrick Lamar.

Well, thanks to lessening COVID-19 restrictions, audiophiles will get a chance to learn why the hype about Thundercat is real when his It Is What It Is tour travels across North America. This marks Thundercat’s largest headlining show to date and will find him—and fellow Californian musician Channel Tres—traveling through over 20 cities to bring joy, funk, and otherworldly grooves near you.

Tickets, which go on sale this Friday, June 11 at 1000 a.m. EDT, mark that we are really outside—an exciting moment if there ever was one.

In addition to Channel Tres, there is a list of as-yet-to-be revealed special guests to appear throughout the tour. And to warm up, Thundercat and his fellow Brainfeeder cohort, Flying Lotus, will host a free concert for frontline and essential workers on June 12 at the Hollywood Bowl amphitheater in Los Angeles.

Though Thundercat’s album run for It Is What It Is was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the project and artist both received major praise from The Washington Post, the New York Times, and the Los Angeles Times.
