Idris Elba starring in a disaster movie is everything we didn’t know we needed. Directed by Academy Award nominee Hany Abu-Assad, The Mountain Between Us stars Idris Elba, and Kate Winslet as two strangers who must forge a connection to survive the extreme elements of a remote snow-covered mountain after they survive a plane crash. When they realize help is not coming, they embark on a perilous journey across hundreds of miles of wilderness, pushing one another to endure and discovering strength they never knew possible.
Initially, when we heard about this title and the cast, we were certain that we were destined for a heartbreaking romance film, but this time, there is a literal mountain involved, and we must admit, we’re excited about this new twist. Director Abu-Assad spoke to USA Todayabout the terrible weather conditions while shooting the film. He said, “Every day we had the call sheet with five different scenarios in every possible weather.” He added that it was so cold, “you can’t talk… When you close [your eyes], because there’s water, you can’t open them sometimes.”
We adore Kate Winslet, but if her character from The Mountain Between Us is anything like Rose from Titanic, then we need to all cross our fingers for Idris’ character’s survival. Seriously though, if Mr. Elba doesn’t make it out of this film alive it will be a situation.
The Mountain Between Us will hit theaters October 20, 2017. With The Dark Tower headed to theaters on August 4th, we’re in for a very Idris summer and fall.
